Tranzit Group is one of New Zealand’s largest bus companies with over 1000 buses operating nationwide in Auckland, Wellington, Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, Whanganui, Taranaki and the Wairarapa, where the company was founded, and still to this day, is headquartered. It is owned by the Snelgrove family.
In 1924, the company was founded by Albert Snelgrove as Grey Bus Service. It became Blue Bus Service (with a livery change) in the early 1950s and then Tranzit in 1985.
Most recently, in July 2018, Tranzit took over the operation of eight contracts in Wellington from NZ Bus and Mana Coach Services while also retaining its Wairarapa contract, giving it a 60% market share in the region. In Wellington, it operates under the brand names "Tranzurban Wellington".
In September 2018, "Tranzurban Auckland" became the contracted operator of the newly designated NX2 services (formerly the 881 route) as part of a reorganisation of Auckland's northern bus network on the North Shore.
