Founded by Ngaire and Ian Murphy in 1976, Murphy Buses is a school and charter bus operator based in Thames, which also operates in Te Kauwhata.
Murphy had previously operated scheduled bus services between Thames-Paeroa-Morrinsville-Hamilton in conjunction with Turley Motors, trading as Turley Murphy Buses, however, Waikato Regional Council has since taken over responsibility of these services.
In 2016, Murphy entered in partnership with Ritchies Transport Holdings, successfully tendering to operate scheduled services in South Auckland, trading as Ritchies-Murphy Transport Solutions.
In late 2021, Murphy was unsuccessful in re-tendering for its Ministry of Education school services in Thames and the Coromandel Peninsula, with nationwide operator, Go Bus Transport, being the successful tenderer. Murphy has since reduced the size of its operation.
