Henry Lyndon Kennedy took over the Greenwell Point mail run from Jack Brown in April 1935 and developed it into a bus service soon after, transporting fish, freight and passengers. The run overflowed into two buses in the early 1970s.

The Nowra - Cambewarra & Nowra - Kangaroo Valley school runs were purchased from Pioneer Motor Service on 1 May 1995 with MO 1247 and MO 1909.

The Nowra - Moss Vale mail & passenger run was secured from WH & RD South, Moss Vale on 17 June 1996 with MO 1327. Kennedy soon gained the Sutton Forest Public School to Attungah under subcontract from Berrima Coaches as an unofficial form of compensation for having two operators on the Moss Vale - Nowra passage. Berrima recommenced operation of the school run for Term 1 2009 and Kennedy's ceased operation of the passenger service as of 16 October 2009.

Diversification into charter occurred in 1997 with the purchase of MO 2582 from Picton Coaches. The touring side of the operation expanded with the acquisition of Bowral Coaches with no vehicles - Some tours are now advertised as Kennedy's Tours incorporating Bowral Coaches.

The route service, school runs & selected charter work of Cavadil Pty Ltd t/a Culburra Bus & Coach Service were taken over 1 October 2008 with six buses and three coaches.

For many years the business ran under the partnership RH (Ray) & JL (John) Kennedy. After Ray's passing 21/4/01, the business then ran as JL (John) & CA (Carol) Kennedy. From 1 June 2018, the business was transferred to Kenbus Pty Ltd, reflecting John and Lyn Kennedy's purchase of Carol Kennedy's shareholding in the business.

On 1 April 2020, Kennedy's gained the contract for Route 737 operating between Kiama Station and Bomaderry Station via Gerringong and Berry Stations. This service was on tender, having previously been operated by Nowra Coaches Pty Ltd.

As part of a Transport for New South Wales route number rationalisation, both route and school services were renumbered as of Monday 3 June 2019.
