| Notes: | The Scania L113 with Orana bodies were the second part of the 300 New Buses project of 1992. Delivered from 1994 to 1995, all were built at Ansair’s manufacturing facility in Tamworth NSW. Delivered new to Kingsgrove, however the original plan was for 75 to be allocated to Kingsgrove and 25 allocated to Port Botany – this did not eventuate. All 100 served out of Kingsgrove depot until early 2013. There is a gap between fleet numbers 3520 and 3621, going back to the 1940’s there had been an understanding between the STA’s forbears and the Roads department and its forbears, that the registration plate series between m/o 1000 and m/o 3999 were reserved for government buses – the idea being that the registration matched the fleet number of the vehicle. This started to come unstuck in the early 1990’s as there was restructuring within the Road’s department. To that end when these buses were coming into service – the registration plates for m/o 3521 to m/o 3613 had been issued to Cardiff motor registry (these fleet numbers were later utilised when State Transit took over North and Western as well as Riverside bus companies in late 1999). They received refurbishment from 1997 to 1999 after the “long” Scanias had been done. Like those buses, these received a plan blue fabric when new that did not wear very well and the cushions were swapped out for the fabric being delivered in the low floor Scanias of the time. During 2005, nine of these vehicles had their seats replaced with Custom Coach style bench seats (the same as which were being delivered in Volvo B12BLE buses at the time) in an effort to provide a stock of spares for the Orana fleet of buses. The vehicles in question 3466, 3485, 3488, 3489, 3493, 3516, 3633, 3637 and 3646. From early 2008 until 2010 a number of these buses received refurbishment, new exterior panels, replacement of exterior lights with LED units and new mobitec destination equipment. 80 of the 100 received such treatment. The units that missed out were 3629, 3632 and 3633, 3636 through to 3644, 3646 to 3648, 3652 and 3653 and finally 3655 through to 3660. However later on some of these buses would receive a repaint into the later version of STA corporate. The 2013 transfer With the decommissioning of the Compressed Natural Gas facilities at Kingsgrove, the “gas” Scanias were transferred out to other depots with CNG facilities, in many cases these buses would serve at that depot until finally withdrawn. Leichhardt received 3512 to 3661 (50) Ryde received 3461 to 3484 (25) Waverley received 3485 to 3510 (25) Region 6 Franchised On 1st July 2018, the services in the Sydney Metropolitan Bus Service Contract for Region 6, services operated out of Burwood, Leichhardt, Kingsgrove and Tempe depots were transferred to Transit Systems West Pty Ltd, at the time, this company also operated in Region 3 as well. With this, 26 of the Scania L113 buses operating from Leichhardt depot were transferred to this operator. After 2016, as new buses were delivered, the buses which were not refurbished in the 2008-2010 refurbishment program started to be withdrawn, in some cases replaced by a new bus, in others, a unit that had been refurbished was transferred in to replace a withdrawn unit. In the beginning of 2020, Ryde depot had been receiving new deliveries of Volvo B8RLE buses with Custom CB80 bodies for a year, displacing the Scania L113. Over at Waverley, it was not new buses pushing out these buses but the cascading of middle aged buses into that depot, there was a decision made to phase out gas buses at this depot – many Volvo B12BLE’s were transferred in to replace the gas powered Mercedes Benz O500 and O405NH as well as the Scania L113 buses. Ultimately the last handful of Scania L113’s were replaced with slightly young Volvo B10BLE’s, also with Orana bodies, but low floor, the bulk of Waverley’s buses having been withdrawn in 2020, the balance in February 2021. The last run of a State Transit Scania L113CRB was bus 3509 on a 09:40 400 service from the International Terminal to Bondi Junction. Transit Systems on the other hand, at the time of writing, were still operating 12 of the 26 buses it inherited when it took over the Region 6 area contract in 2018. A mixture of Gemilang and Volgren bodied Mercedes Benz O500LE’s have replaced the buses withdrawn during 2020. It is planned that the remainder of Leichhardt’s allocation will be replaced with BYD D9RA Electric Buses. The final in service run of a Scania L113 CNG powered Orana bus was on 2 December 2021 on an evening 320, the 18:17 from Mascot to Gore Hill. Given these buses were powered by compressed natural gas and there not being a retail fuel supplier, these buses were sent to scrap once they were run one last time to empty their tanks.
