Buslink Queensland Pty Ltd was formed after a partnership was struck between Buslink Pty Ltd in Darwin and Steve Lucas - the owner of Victorian operations Portland Bus Lines, Sunraysia Bus Lines & Warrnambool Bus Lines.
In 1996, Transit Australia, trading as "Sunbus" successfully tendered and won the provision of contracts for both the urban and school runs in the areas of Ipswich, Cairns, Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Rockhampton. A decision was made during 1999 to sell off the school runs in these areas, and instead focus on the urban and route services present in each location.
Consequently, British company "Stagecoach", purchased the school run divisions in Ipswich, Cairns & the Sunshine Coast. The runs in Townsville were operated by the Hermit Park Bus Service, and Campbell's Coaches, under subcontract agreements. In Rockhampton, the school runs were obtained by local operators, such as Young's Bus Service. In 2002, Stagecoach closed operations in Queensland, and subsequently sold all their pre-existing divisions. The Ipswich operation was purchased by the Pulitano Group from Victoria, Cairns was purchased by Love's Bus Service from Western Australia, and the Sunshine Coast operation was purchased by the newly formed Buslink Queensland Pty Ltd.
Around 1997, Buslink Queensland Pty Ltd purchased the operation of Gladstone Bus & Coach who were the main operator in Gladstone, QLD. This operation has been renamed "Buslink Gladstone".
Further acquisitions saw the purchase of Calliope Coaches during late 2008, which saw the Gladstone fleet rise and a number of runs in the town of Calliope, QLD acquired.
